Spiritual Growth

The Basics

The four elements which are vital for spiritual growth are listed in Acts 2:42 and is part of our Baptismal Covenant: the Apostles' teaching (Bible study), fellowship (Christian community), breaking of the bread (weekly Holy Communion and sharing meals with other believers), and prayer (common prayer and personal prayer). As you grow in these four practices, you will grow spiritually.

Retreats

Called to the Quiet

Four times a year we offer a morning of prayer and meditation at Faith, following Jesus’ example, who “...often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Our world is so hectic, so noisy, so many demands, so many voices pulling us this way and that.... God calls us to the quite, a time of prayer, meditation, reflection, and learning to hear from God. Our Called to the Quiet retreats begin with Morning Prayer, have a time of directed prayer, meditation, and reflection, and conclude with Noon Day Prayers. Bring your Bible and something to write on. If you would like to walk the grounds for a portion of your personal time of prayer and meditation, you will want to dress for the weather. During a portion of the time Spiritual Directors will be available to offer spiritual direction and a priest will be available to hear confessions.

Walk to Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. For more information see the Memphis Walk to Emmaus website. If you would like to attend contact our church office at 901-755-4848.

A Weekend to Remember – A Marriage Retreat

Both the Pipes and the Hands attended a Family Life Ministries Weekend to Remember in the summer of 2009. Both the Pipes and the Hands say that it was most effective marriage retreat they have ever attended or heard of. To strengthen and bless your marriage, please consider attending a Weekend to Remember. They are offered all across the country. A discount is offered for those who attend churches in the Anglican Mission in the Americas, like ours.   See the Family Life Ministries website for conference dates and locations.

Love and Respect – A Marriage Conference

In 2010 the Hands and several others at Faith have read Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs. This book fundamentally changed and strengthened their marriage. They explored, learned, and put into practice, “The love she most desires,” and “the respect he desperately needs.” This insight is based on God’s command found in Ephesians 5:33, “…each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.” See the Love and Respect website for conference dates and locations.

Ancient Paths – An Inner Healing Retreat

The Ancient Paths teaching includes solid principles and moving examples that open the heart for ministry to receive healing from a cursed identity. The intent of the teaching is not just for information, but to expose hidden areas of woundedness that have occurred in the family of origin or through other significant relationships. See the Love and Respect website for conference dates and locations. See the Family Foundations website for retreat dates and locations.
